Happy Halloween from The Draper team!
Halloween brings a little extra excitement to downtown Loveland each year, and we had the pleasure of experiencing it firsthand!
A few weeks ago, Find Your Light, a local nonprofit performing arts organization, invited the Draper development team to experience its annual haunted house at 333 East Fourth Street, inside the historic Moore & Gray Grocery Building—one of the buildings that will become part of The Draper redevelopment.
Our group included members of the development team, our attorney, realtor, architect, and other project partners. We came expecting a few good scares, but what we experienced was an impressive display of creativity, craftsmanship, and theatrical talent.
A Frightfully Good Welcome!
We knew we were in for an entertaining evening when Brandon Harrington, one of the leaders of Find Your Light, greeted us at the entrance in full costume.
Imagine a cross between Beetlejuice and a particularly frightening circus clown! Brandon certainly looked the part, and his enthusiasm set the tone for the evening.
Inside, we discovered a maze of imaginative scenes, elaborate sets, eerie lighting, special effects, and some very convincing monsters.
The haunted house is a remarkable volunteer undertaking. Hundreds of hours go into designing and constructing the sets, creating artwork, building props, developing costumes, and transforming the historic building into a Halloween attraction.
The quality of the carpentry, artwork, and theatrical production was extraordinary.
Perhaps the best part was the cast. Current and former members of the theater company volunteer their time as actors, bringing each scene to life—and doing their very best to scare unsuspecting visitors!
They certainly succeeded with our group.
More Than a Haunted House
What makes Find Your Light special is that its creativity extends well beyond Halloween.
The nonprofit is dedicated to bringing people together through the performing arts, providing opportunities for community participation, creative expression, and theatrical education.
With approximately 14 community theater productions each year, the organization has become an active contributor to Loveland's cultural community.
Its annual haunted house is another example of what can happen when talented volunteers, performers, artists, and craftspeople come together around a shared vision.
We were especially impressed by the commitment and enthusiasm of everyone involved.
Could the Historic Majestic Theater Become Find Your Light's Permanent Home?
There may be an exciting connection between Find Your Light and the future of The Draper.
The organization has expressed interest in leasing the historic Majestic Theater space as a permanent home for its performing arts programs and productions.
The Majestic, originally constructed in 1903, is one of the historically significant spaces included in The Draper's planned rehabilitation.
Restoring this remarkable venue for live theater and community performances would bring an important part of downtown Loveland's history back to life.
We can think of few better uses for a historic theater than providing a home for a local organization dedicated to the performing arts.
Although discussions remain preliminary, we are enthusiastic about the possibility of working with Find Your Light as The Draper moves forward.
Keeping Downtown Loveland's Creative Spirit Alive
Our evening at the haunted house was a wonderful reminder that historic buildings are more than bricks and mortar. They are places where people come together, create memories, and build community.
That is exactly the spirit we hope to preserve and expand through The Draper redevelopment.
Thank you to Brandon Harrington, the Find Your Light team, and all the volunteers who contributed their time and talents to creating such an entertaining experience.
If you haven't visited the haunted house yet, there are still a few days remaining in this year's event. We encourage you to check with Find Your Light for the remaining dates and admission information.
From all of us at The Draper, Happy Halloween!
And to the talented performers at Find Your Light: You scared us, impressed us, and inspired us. We look forward to seeing what you create next!
